Streamyx or TMNet Streamyx formerly is the dominant internet service provider for Malaysian.It is the principal fixed line broadband service provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's main telecomunication provider , TM Bhd.
Obviously TM Net offers its internet Digital Subscriber Line broadband internet with the brandname Streamyx.
TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which eventually morphed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was at first deployed as a trial connecting TMnet and COINS.
The first commercial trial of xDSL by TM was done via a service known as HiS that was deployed together with Ericsson in 1999.
The first Streamyx internet broadband service was introduced in April 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In June 2007, TMnet commences the high speed 4mbpsbroadband service which is currently, is the highest available speed.
On 10 12 2009, Streamyx released a new 15mbps fiber optic service under the High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is predicted to be released by 03 2010. Presently the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been determined as not reaching the recent specifications as required by basic web applications such as YouTube, Skype and therefore concludes that Malaysia may not in the long run harvest the rewards of broadband internet service. On another note, the High Speed Broadband Project is set to overcome this concern.
